A not-so-subtle message was sent to a large viewing audience.

The targets of the TV communiqué were Democrats in power. If you can believe it, the Obama administration, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the Democrats in Congress were smacked by Hollywood on a major television broadcast.

Rather than use the tired old clichés of villainous conservatives, Christians, gun owners or Republicans, the new show “V” went after the current D.C. free-enterprise-destroying agenda, and did so with an interplanetary vengeance.

Sci-fi tales are known as the repository for parables that describe current circumstances in society. Orwell, Huxley, and H.G. Wells wrote social commentary in the form of narrative fantasy. “1984″ was a warning about totalitarianism, “Brave New World” showed the consequences of science without moral limitations, and “War of the Worlds” displayed the danger of complacency.

“There is another side of this story,” Gerald Shargel, attorney for Robert J. Halderman, said. “This story is far more complicated.”

What could the plot to the other side of the story be?

Halderman has already entered a “not guilty” plea to first-degree attempted grand larceny.

According to Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau, Halderman wrote to Letterman stating that he needed to “make a large chunk of money.” Attached to his letter was a one-page screenplay treatment, which described how Letterman would have a “ruined reputation” after details of the CBS “Late Show” host’s sexual relationships with young female employees were revealed.

The 51-year-old producer used a novel method to deliver the “screenplay.” Early in the morning on Sept. 9 the letter and other materials were left in the back seat of Letterman’s car, which was parked outside his Manhattan home.

The recent arrest of suspected terrorist Najibullah Zazi reminds us all of the important role surveillance plays in safeguarding our people and our nation.

Zazi is in custody on charges of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction. He was accused last week of conspiring to launch a bombing attack in America with the help of some common beauty supplies and insidious training from al-Qaida in Pakistan.

The terrorism suspect maintains that he was not part of a terrorist cell, according to his attorney, Arthur Folsom.

The Mount Vernon, WA mayor decreed that September 26 would be known as Glenn Beck Day. He also scheduled a ceremony to give Beck a key to the city that the Fox cable host was born in.

“I don’t know if I expected the magnitude of resistance,” Norris told CNN. But he also indicated that he has received “a tremendous amount of positive response.”

Norris has known Beck since Beck’s parents owned a bakery in Mount Vernon. The city official feels as though Beck’s success story should inspire all Mount Vernon residents regardless of their politics.

Evidently, some Dems disagree. Democrat groups have led protests in the city over the Beck salute.

Michael Moore solidified his position as one of the biggest phonies of our times while at a recent Venice Film Festival outing.

He debuted his latest sham documentary called “Capitalism: A Love Story.”

Thanks to the free enterprise system, Moore has become super wealthy, which makes the two-hour flick a case study in hypocrisy.

“Capitalism is an evil,” Moore proclaims, “and you cannot regulate evil.”

According to Moore, regulating capitalism doesn’t work, so his prescription is, “You have to eliminate it and replace it with something that is good for all people and that something is democracy.”

Guess it all depends on what the meaning of “democracy” is.

Fidel, Hugo, Van, Nancy, and Harry might have a similar definition. Someday someone might ask the president what his is.

In any event, the flimflam filmmaker even stoops so low as to bring in some liberation theology clergy to endorse the idea that capitalism is actually anti-Christian…

America has been enamored with the life story of Barack and Michelle Obama.

The mainstream media have repeatedly reminded the public of the couple’s humble origins on Chicago’s South Side and how the two remain in touch with ordinary folks, understanding their suffering in these difficult economic times.

However, the change that was promised by Obama is definitely not reflected in the amount of money being spent on the numerous staffers whose jobs are to fawn over the First Lady.

Even pampered Hollywood celebs, who have entourages that include cooks, clerks and cleaning crews, don’t come close to matching the lengthy list of assistants that the First Lady has.

Taxpayer dollars provide a salary pool of $1.6 million a year for 22 staffers who exclusively work full-time for Michelle; this according to FactCheck.org.

Former First Lady Laura Bush’s staff salary totaled $561,325 per year, according to a salary survey published in the Washington Post in 2004. (FactCheck claims the number is $1.4 million if non-designated staffers are included.)

Republicans were criticized in the past for their “excess,” and that was when economic times were rosier.

But no similar criticism is heard about the Obamas, despite their expensive date nights, extravagant vacations and designer clothing tab.

Guess we should be thankful that there’s at least some job creation going on in the country, even if it’s mainly in the East Wing.

Leave it to the material girl to show folks how to adopt a child from a poor Third World country.

Four-year-old Mercy James, whose Malawian name is Chifundo, is all hers now thanks to the Supreme Court of Appeal in Malawi.

The higher court overturned the lower court ruling that had been a stumbling block in the whole adoption process.

The reason the singer’s attempt to adopt Mercy was stopped, according to the lower court judge, was that Madonna had not complied with rules that mandated that she live in Malawi for 18 months before adopting the child.

In rendering the opinion that let her off the residency hook, Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo said, “Madonna has been judged to be a compassionate, intelligent and articulate person. Her adoption of Mercy James is not a selfish act.”

It could be that the chief justice was alluding to something reported in the U.K. Daily Mirror; that Madonna paid out $7.3 million to fund orphanages and buy shoes, clothes, books and more for the impoverished children.

It’s not the first time Madonna was able to skirt Malawi law. She did it when she adopted little David, too. The interesting thing, though, is that David and Mercy weren’t exactly orphans. They both had family.

At the time of his son’s adoption, David’s dad Yohane expressed regrets and claimed he wasn’t fully informed about the arrangements. Kambewa, the alleged daddy of Mercy has gone on record as being opposed to her adoption as well.

Esme Chombo, the provincial judge of the lower court who had ruled against Madonna, quoted G. K. Chesterton to support the idea of sticking with the rule of law, even in a Third World country.

“Don’t take a fence down until you know why it was put up in the first place,” the jurist said.

Meanwhile Madonna has been seen dating a guy in his twenties. No word yet on whether she plans on adopting him.

Just what we needed, a movie, likely to be jointly produced by HBO and the BBC, called “The Special Relationship,” which will take us on a trip down Memory Lane to a time when our TV sets were filled with Clinton smut.

The “special relationship” apparently refers to the political one between Bill Clinton and Tony Blair and not the “inappropriate” one between little Willie and Monica Lewinsky, although that will supposedly be included, too.

Dennis Quaid will portray the ex-prez and Julianne Moore will play Hillary.

In a hint about how the story will be told, the writer and director is Peter Morgan, the same guy who penned “Frost/Nixon.”

Why can’t Hollywood come up with some more current script ideas, like the story of a man who worked at Freddie Mac, the mortgage entity with an accounting scandal that led to a major management shake-up and huge fines; the story of the same guy being on the board and taking in more than $300 grand for the gig; and the story of a dubious dude who goes on to become chief of staff to the President of the United States.

“Rahmbo,” with a cliffhanger of an ending, would make for a good flick.

The Obama White House has inadvertently done something for Rush Limbaugh that the best media operatives in the world would give their Fendi shades to be able to do for their clients.

After picking the conservative icon to be its Alinski-style target, the Screwtape Squad has almost doubled Rush’s already staggering radio ratings.

We can only imagine that the “geniuses” will try and pin the idea on the other guy-Rahm will blame it on Gibbs, Axelrod will lay it on Biden, Geithner will cuss out Holder, etc.

The attempt to make Rush the leader of the GOP has resulted in more folks than ever being educated about true conservative principles.

Talkers magazine shows Limbaugh’s weekly audience has shot up from 14.2 million to about 25 million since he was targeted by the bumbling media masterminds.

But the icing on the cake is that fewer people will now buy the idea that Rush is a ***! (Fill-in-the-lefty blank).

In an unrelated bit of unsubstantiated rumor, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Committee on Tolerance and Compassion plans to eliminate a previous designation that had been used to describe Hollywood actors, directors and producers who were self-proclaimed Republicans.

Based on current policy changes being implemented by the Obama administration and international law, now even conservatives, Christians and Southern white males who are known to have strong to loose ties with the GOP Party will no longer have to wear the “enemy combatant” label.

A spokesperson for the Academy stated that the change of moniker was the result of an extensive review of policy relating to those with “out of favor” ideology.

“The policy alteration that we have made today meets with our standards and will serve to make our industry stronger and justicier,” spokesperson R.U. Kidding said.

As a result of the new terminology, Hollywood GOP-ers will now be referred to as “unemployed detainees.”

The president-elect is expected to appoint D.C. lawyer Henry Rivera as transition leader for the FCC, according to Multichannel News.

Rivera is a Democrat former commissioner who served on the FCC panel from 1981 to 1985.

Following Rivera’s resignation in 1985, President Ronald Reagan appointed Patricia Diaz Dennis, who opposed the Fairness Doctrine. The law was subsequently repealed in 1987.

The law mandates that equal time be given on broadcast airwaves to opposing political viewpoints.

As the FCC in the past was forced to admit, the Orwellian Fairness Doctrine “had the net effect of reducing rather than enhancing the discussion of controversial issues of public importance.”

After the law was repealed, talk radio became a bona fide industry.

Obama’s reported choice is no “reach across the aisle” pick. Rivera has been heralded for linking civil rights interests to communications policies.

According to the Web site of the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council, Rivera is Chairman of the Board. The group is “committed to promoting and preserving equal opportunity and civil rights in the mass media and telecommunications industries.”

He’s also a board member and General Counsel for the Benton Foundation, an organization that “works to ensure that media and telecommunications serve the public interest and enhance our democracy. We pursue this mission by seeking policy solutions that support the values of access, diversity and equity…,” according to its Web site.

It all sounds an awful lot like the language used by Democrats to justify the rebirth of the Fairness Doctrine, including Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, Chuck Schumer, Dennis Kucinich, Jeff Bingham and Louise Slaughter-all of whom are on record as being in support of the lopsided law. Slaughter actually already tried to bring it back.

As Feinstein complained to Fox News’ Chris Wallace, “In my view, talk radio tends to be one-sided. It also tends to be dwelling in hyperbole. It’s explosive. It pushes people to, I think, extreme views without a lot of information.”
